چکیده

conclusions this study demonstrated numerous clinical similarities of trigeminal neuralgia afflicting different populations. right side was more involved along with mandibular division the most commonly affected. however studies needs to be done to know the exact reasons of involvement of the affected side and branches. results the age of the patients varied from 40 to 80 years with a mean age 54 years at the time of presentation. the males to females ratio was 1:2. the right side of the face was found to be involved in seventy patients (64 %) and left side in (36 %). no case presented with bilateral involvement. the mandibular division was most commonly involved in this study (n = 55; 55%) and least was ophthalmic divisions (n = 6; 6%). background trigeminal neuralgia (tn) is neuropathic pain which can involve any part or side of the face. objectives the objectives of this study were to find the most common branch of trigeminal nerve affected and the most common side involved. patients and methods this cross sectional study was carried out on 100 patients of trigeminal neuralgia in one year time. the diagnosis was based on a detailed history, clinical examination and control of pain by carbamazepine being taken supplemented by radiographic investigations. the collected data was analysed by spss 16.

Commentary on: Trigeminal Neuralgia: Frequency of Occurrence in Different Nerve Branches

We read this article with great interest regarding the frequency of occurrence in different nerve branches in trigeminal neuralgia (1). However, the paper raises some important issues. The authors showed that more patients presented with right than left neuralgia (ratio: 1.5/1), attributing this lateralization of neuralgia to a narrower foramen ovale and foramen rotundum on the right side. This...

Trigeminal Pain and Its Distribution in Different Trigeminal Nerve Branches

We read with great interest the recent article by Bangash et al. regarding pain distribution in the different trigeminal nerve (TN) branches in patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TGN) (1). Pain of the 5th cranial nerve is a sudden, unilateral, brief, stabbing, recurrent neuropathic pain in the distribution of one or more of the TN branches. The peak age of onset is between the 5th and 8th deca...

The Long-Term Effective Rate of Different Branches of Idiopathic Trigeminal Neuralgia After Single Radiofrequency Thermocoagulation

To evaluate the efficacy of computed tomography (CT) guided single radiofrequency thermocoagualtion (RFT) in 1137 patients with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia after a follow-up period of 11 years, specially focused on duration of pain relief in different branches of trigeminal nerve, side effect, and complications. Retrospective study of patients with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia treated wi...
